There has been a lot of work going on recently in the Angus Glens, namely in Glenisla where we are part of a group who are trying to build a trail centre there.
This has been a long process over the last couple of years, initiated by the Angus Mountain Bike Trail Association (AMBTA), and more recently taken over by the snappily named Glenisla Trail Centre Steering Group (GITCSG) of which we are delighted to be a part. Currently work is continuing towards making the steering group a properly constitued group in order to raise funds for the project and ultimately take over the lease of the forest from Forestry Commision Scotland.
A full feasibility study has been done by Cycletherapy who are responsible for other similar projects around the country. They returned a very positive verdict and state in writing what we have all known all along, that the area has a massive potential! All we need to do now is persuade FCS of the sustainability of the project, and raise the required funds... Easier said than done!
In the meantime we have been busy in the forest, clearing the old x-country ski trails of fallen trees and allowing them to dry out a bit. This means that we now have a couple of loops that are almost completely rideable, or ski-able if it snows! Thanks very much to the members of AMBTA who turned out to lend a hand, or paw, with the clearing work. Please head on up there and have a ride, prove that if we build it, you will come!
As the project progresses we'll be sure to keep you posted, in the meantime you can read the feasibilty study on the AMBTA website or check out the Glenisla Trail Centre Facebook page for more info!
