We're delighted to be featuring in the Daily Record in the next few weeks following a day spent coaching one of their intrepid reporters!

Bureau Chief James Moncur is not shy of a challenge; having taken on two Ironman races, several Triathlons and some of the UK's toughest road bike races he felt he needed something new to do!  So he swapped his road bike for a mountain bike and signed up to the Strathpuffer 24.  For those unfamiliar with the race it's 24 hours of mid January hell on a bike, solo.

Not lacking in fitness, James was however lacking in mtb skills to ensure he made it around each 8 mile lap in one piece, prefferably competatively. So that's where we come in.   Tom spent a day with him up at Laggan Wolftrax trail centre, helping to build his confidence on technical terrain and teaching him the correct way to tackle different trail obstacles.  He was apparently the perfect client; fit, keen, competent and good at listening until a slightly over zealous attack of some rock steps lead to an over the bars moment and a trip to the shop for a new helmet!

Check out James' write up of the day on his blog where you can also find out about all his other exploits and his fundraising efforts to help injured Royal Marines  http://blogs.dailyrecord.co.uk/ironman/
