Escape to Bute – (1 day)

The Isle of Bute in the Firth of Clyde on Scotland’s West Coast makes a fantastic place for a road ride.  Sparsely populated and gently undulating, it is ideal for a family day out with a picnic, or those new to road biking who would like to gain confidence without the pressure of busy roads.

A cyclist riding deserted roads on the Escape to Bute Road Bike CourseThe most popular way of reaching the island is the ferry from Wemyss Bay on the mainland to Rothesay on Bute.  From Rothesay, our route follows the main road which loops around the southern half of the island for 35kms/22miles.  This loop can be lengthened to visit beaches or shortened as required and while it is the main road, sheep are likely to be the most frequent road user that we’ll encounter!

The train station at Wemyss Bay is right next to the ferry port, making it another excellent location for a ride without using the car at all!

Collective Training’s Guided Road Bike Rides are ideal for a group.  They are subject to a maximum of 8 riders.
