FIRST AID FOR OUTDOOR SPORTS AND INSTRUCTORS

Outdoor First Aid for Mountain Bikers (or Road Cyclists)

“Having been involved in all manner of ‘accidents’ on the bike, we decided it be best to learn to know what to do when things Mark from The Bike Chain during a practice scenariodon’t go as planned!  Also, being a busy shop in town and seeing a large number of the general public, it is a matter of time until 1st aid skills are going to be needed.

We chose Collective Training based on the recommendation of close friends whom we trust, and this decision paid back.  Every technique and message was taught using a variety of teaching techniques and before long we were all acting out and repeating the ABCDE mantra! Great stuff, either as a 1st timer or a refresher, we highly recommend it”

Mark Downie - The Bike Chain, Edinburgh

some mountain bikers come to the aid of a casualtyDeveloped in partnership with the CTC (the UK’s National Cycling Body), this first Aid Course makes the core content of the ITC Certificate in Outdoor First Aid (SQA) Course specifically relevant to mountain bikers or road cyclists and the situations they may face.

Theoretical training and practical scenarios are used together and are based on being on a local trail or in remote locations; potentially several hours from help.

The first day covers emergency lifesaving techniques with the second day building upon this with more in depth first aid and practical outdoor scenarios.

You will need to bring your bike and riding clothes with you on this course as you will experience and practice scenarios whilst out on a ride.

This course is specifically relevant to cycle leaders of all types including MBLA, CTC, IMBA etc. it will also ensure the validity of other NGB Instructor Qualifications, including: ML Summer and Winter, IML, WGL, SPA, MIA, MIC, British Mountain Guide, RYA, BCU, Local Cave and Mine Leader, BASI etc.

As set out by SQA guidelines, core content includes:
